Registered Charity

Greater Sylhet Development and Welfare Council (GSC) in UK is a voluntary and nationwide charity organisation established in 1993, working for the welfare of Sylheti Bangladeshi people living in the UK. Bangladeshis in UK

Up to 95% of Bangladeshis in the UK trace their roots to the Greater Sylhet Region. Sylhetis have contributed greatly to the building of Bangladesh and to today’s multi-racial British society. With deep ties to Greater Sylhet, they have always extended their support—whether during the 1971 Liberation War or in times of calamities like cyclones and floods.

Since 1992

Despite such a record or contribution and devotion, it is said that the community and its region back in Bangladesh faced multiple deprivation in all aspects of life. In the United Kingdom, this community is the most disadvantaged in housing, social conditions and employment and education sectors, hence the creation of the Greater Sylhet Development and Welfare Council in the UK.

Eid Smile Campaign

A small act of kindness can bring an Eid smile that lasts forever

The Eid Smile Campaign has been a great success, bringing joy and relief to countless poor, needy, orphaned and widowed families across the Sylhet Division, where the generous contributions of our community have turned simple acts of kindness into meaningful Eid gifts, allowing those less fortunate to celebrate this blessed occasion with dignity, happiness, and a heartfelt smile.

Success Story

Bangladesh Flood Appeal

floods in Bangladesh have caused devastating damage — submerging villages, destroying crops, and leaving families without shelter or basic necessities. In response, the Greater Sylhet Development and Welfare Council UK launched a Flood Appeal to support those most in need. Through this initiative, 300,000 Taka was distributed among 100 flood-affected families in Sunamganj Sadar and Doarabazar Ambaria.

We Always Help The
Needy People

GSC has always been at the forefront, standing beside people in their most difficult times. From providing vital relief during devastating floods and hurricanes in Bangladesh, to extending our hand of support during the tragic earthquakes in Turkey and Syria, our commitment goes beyond borders.

Here in the UK, we were also proud to stand by the Bangladeshi community during the challenges of COVID-19, offering help, comfort, and solidarity. Whether at home or abroad, GSC remains dedicated to serving humanity and bringing hope in times of need.
